Mary Tafoya creates innovative designs in mosaic which sets her apart from most other Santo Domingo pueblo artists. Mary creates her mosaic jewelry using vibrant contrasting colors of natural materials.
Here's a fabulous hand made necklace, featuring a mosaic inlaid pendant on a 20-inch multigem heishi necklace. The colorful centerpiece measures 2 x 1-5/8 inches featuring turquoise, apple coral, jet, gaspeite, serpentine and other stones & shells. The center of the flower is purple mojave with copper injected into it. The curled white tops are slices from her signature Conus Shell where she cuts the whole shell and she uses the curled form that is the result. Mary's use of black jet in her adhesive creates a marvelous contrast of black with her other colorful materials. The materials lay flush atop of a jet black backing.
