Very collectible belt buckle created by Zuni master silversmith Horace Iule (ca 1901-1978). The buckle features 5 turquoise stones and a branch of dark red coral set in sawtooth bezels framed by detailed cast and chiseled accents. Measures 3-7/8 inches by 2 inches. The buckle will accommodate a belt up to 1-1/4 inch wide. Weighs 44 grams. Hallmarked H. IULE as shown.
"Horace Iule (ca1901-1978) was taught silversmithing by his father and later became a teacher of silversmithing at the Zuni Indian Day School. In 1928, Iule created the knifewing figure in silver jewelry and he was perhaps the first master Zuni artisan." Billie Hougart
