  *** SOLD ***

Here is a vintage Isabelle and Chauncy Simplicio inlaid horse head bolo. The couple began making this their signature bolo in the 1960's. Isabelle is quite elderly now and she is still making jewelry.

The bolo features a white Mother of Pearl horse head with a sterling silver bridle inlaid on a dark shell background. There are genuine turquoise nuggets and fancy silver work adorning the bolo.

The bolo measures 2 inch tall by 1-3/4 inch wide. The black braided bolo tie has 2 inch long sterling silver bolo tips. The bolo tie is very worn in several spots. The bolo and the silver tips are very oxidized, needing a good polish.

The bolo has a BENNETT PAT. PEND. C-31 bolo slide, which helps confirm the age of the bolo. Bolos marked with a "Bennett Pat Pend C31" slide were made between 1957 until some time in 1967. The bolo is not hallmarked, but the couple often did not hallmark their work unless they were asked. You can see photos of this bolo on page 60 of the book "Zuni The Art and the People volume 1" by Ed & Barbara Bell. I feel confident that bolo was made by Isabelle and Chauncy Simplicio sometime in the 1960's.

Isabelle is still making this bolo today and I have a brand new one plus a matching buckle available for sale on this website.
