Zuni artist Lorraine Waatsa made this Sleeping Beauty turquoise cluster necklace and earrings set and she is well-known for this, her signature design. Lorraine is the daughter of Alice and Duane Quam and the granddaughter of Warren and Doris Ondelacy. She has continued the rich tradition of quality work associated with her family and is one of the premier Zuni cluster work jewelers working today. Lorraine Waatsa's cluster work is extremely well made and beautiful! Lorraine work is published in most Zuni reference books, including Zuni Jewelry, by Theda and Michael Bassman.
The necklace hangs approximately 16 inches long from the back of the neck to the bottom of the dangles on the centerpiece. The necklace without the pendant is 24 inches end to end. The pendant can be removed from the necklace and added to a different necklace or the necklace can be worn without the pendant. The detached pendant is 4-3/4 inches long. The matching cluster earrings are 7/8 inch wide, for pierced ears.
The centerpiece is made up of four sections. The top cluster is 1 inch wide with 14 turquoise pettitpoints surrounding a round turquoise cab in the center. Then there is a hand fashioned silver link with two tiny turquoise snake eyes set on it. The larger cluster is 2 inches wide with 20 turquoise pettitpoints surrounding a inner circle of 11 turquoise pettitpoints and then a single turquoise cab in the very center. Eleven turquoise pettitpoint dangles and lots of sterling silver beads, twisted silver rope and hand made silver links complete this fabulous necklace. The Sleeping Beauty turquoise stones are perfectly matched to one another in color and every stone is set in an individual serrated bezel. Imagine the amount of painstaking work that goes into created on of this necklaces!
