Here's a unique contemporary carved leaf necklace created by Chris Nieto of Santo Domingo Pueblo. The necklace features nine 1-1/4 long leaves that have been carved from stabilized apple coral. The leaves are strung on a necklace with turquoise, jet, white shell and apple coral beads. As with all Chris's work, this is a one of a kind piece.

Christopher Nieto is a young artist from Santo Domingo Pueblo who has excelled beyond his years in terms of the exacting precision of his traditional necklaces, both in terms of design and execution of the component parts of his pieces. All of his beads are handmade and his mosaic inlay work is second to none in its quality of craftsmanship. Nieto is self taught in lapidary work and learned his heishi work from his parents. Chris puts his own contemporary spin on each piece. His goal is to keep the old Santo Domingo traditions alive and to pass them down to new generations. His work is increasingly sought after and he has won many awards.
