This incredibly detailed Olla Maiden ring is a wonderful example of traditional Zuni stone-to-stone inlay jewelry, created by well-known Zuni artist, Madeline Beyuka. The maiden is dressed in the traditional formal wear for Zuni women. She wears a black manta, blouse, sash, apron, moccasins and a necklace. There's a colorful piece of pottery balanced on her head.
The maiden's shirt is inlaid with a shimmering pink shell. The rest of the stones and shells used are turquoise, coral, jet and white MOP.
The maiden measures 2-1/2 inch long and 1-1/4 inch wide. The ring weighs 16.8 grams and has Madeline's hallmark (MB).
Brand new and in perfect condition. Gift box and Certificate of Authenticity included with your purchase.
Madeline has been creating mosiac inlay style jewelry since the 1950's. Madeline was married at one time to the late Zuni silversmith, Eddie A. Beyuka, and did the lapidary work for him. After their divorce, she continued on her own and did the silver work and lapidary work herself. Her favorite designs are this olla maiden and the eagle dancer.
