Veronica Poblano as well as Mary Ann Poncho were some of the first Zuni artists to use these figures in their jewelry in the 1970's. They both gained a following and a reputation for the popular little figures. Andrea Lonjose Shirley is best known for her use of thesecharacters today. As far as I know, they were not commissioned by Disney .. In fact, I read that in the 1970's, the Zuni tribe was issued an injunction by Disney for them to cease all production of this line of Mickey Mouse Jewelry.
