Up for your consideration is this fantastic Native American ~ Navajo ~ handmade sterling silver & leather concho belt, created by long-time Navajo silversmith, Thomas Charley and his son Colton Charley. The Charleys are well-known for their signature silver conchos; the conchos feature rows of domed silver bars encircling a center dome accented by twisted silver rope. By constructing it in this manner the jewelry is lighter weight (and more comfortable) than if it were made with a solid casting style.
Navajo silversmith Thomas Charley hasn't made this style concho belt in over 10 years, but he has begun making it again. And I am so pleased with it. It is a very unique and classy concho belt!
The 12 sparkling sterling silver sturdy conchos are 2 inches wide. One concho makes up the buckle and the remaining 11 conchos are then attached to the belt with two brass slides on each concho. The conchos can be moved, removed, and/or adjusted as needed. The black leather belt is 1-3/8 inch wide and 52 inches long end-to-end from the tip of the buckle. Since this is a brand new belt, there are no holes punched yet on the belt. We will punch the holes to fit your request. And we can cut the leather belt to your desired length.
Brand new and in perfect condition. Authenticity Card included. Hallmarked TC which is the family hallmark for Thomas & Colton Charley. Purchased directly in person from Colton Charley.
Many artists are copying his style, but Thomas Charley is the originator of this unique contemporary style. Thomas Charley is full blooded Native American Indian. He was born in 1952 on the Navajo Reservation and has been creating jewelry since 1977. His son Colton Charley learned the art of silversmithing from his father as a child growing up. Colton now works together with his father , and has begun taking over the family business. Colton says, "It's something I know and something I enjoy doing so I started making a living doing it and I hope one of these days to pass this art down to my own kids and keep the tradition alive."
