Here is a unique vintage sterling silver overlay and inlay belt buckle. I'm not sure whether this buckle in Navajo, Zuni or Hopi because it has characteristics of all three. My guess however is that it is Navajo. There is a silver overlay sunface design, inlaid with turquoise and coral.
The buckle measures 1-7/8 inches long by 1-1/4 inch wide and it weighs 27 grams. The buckle can fit a belt up to 1 inch wide.
Circa 1970-80's. As is the case more often that not with the earlier Native American jewelry, this piece is not marked for silver content. However, it tests positive as coin silver or better. When I test jewelry for silver content, I never drop the testing solution directly on the piece of jewelry since the acid could damage the piece. Rather I rub the piece against a testing stone and drop the acid on the testing stone. Excellent vintage condition.
