The Water Bird is a symbol representing, for many Native Americans, the renewal of life, wet seasons, rivers, distant travel, distant vision and wisdom. The Water Bird has been an important symbol of the Native American Church (NAC) and Peyote medicine. It is thought that the Water Bird dives to the bottom of lakes and rivers bringing up medicines and placing them on the shore so the people can use them.
