Vintage satin finished sterling silver overlay buckle created by Hopi artist Verden Mansfield . The overlay work is clean, bold and elegant. The buckle has a soft brushed finish and features a corn plant, clouds and a fluteplayer. The buckle measures 3 by 1-1/2 and fits a belt up to 1 wide. Weighs 34 grams.
The buckle is from a private collection and it is in excellent condition, though in need of a polish. circa 1980-90's
Verden Mansfield has been creating Hopi overlay jewelry since 1974, creating intricate katchina figures in sterling silver overlay. Verden learned from father Vernon Mansfield. He is from the Bear Strap Clan and lives in Shungopavi, Second Mesa, Arizona. He has won many awards, including recognition at the 2002 Gallup Inter-tribal Indian Ceremonial with a Best in Category award.
