Vintage Native American Navajo Silver & Leather Concho Belt

Authentic vintage Native American handmade silver and leather concho belt with 6 hand stamped silver conchos alternating with 6 silver "butterflies". The silver conchos measure about 2-3/4" long by 2-3/8" wide. Dark brown leather belt. Item# 2944

$ 595.00     SOLD     Back

This vintage concho belt has 6 big hand stamped conchos, made from coin or sterling silver, alternating with 6 silver "butterflies". This belt was completely hand-made, back in the day when conchos were hand-cut, hand-formed, hand-stamped and the repousse work was hand-done. You can tell by looking at the conchos and butterflies..the stampwork on every one is slightly different.

The conchos measure about 2-3/4" long by 1-3/8" wide, are affixed to oval leather backs measuring 3-1/4" long by 2-5/8" wide and are attached to the leather belt with copper slides that can be adjusted as needed. The butterflies measure 2-1/2" by 1-3/8", and affixed to leather backs measuring 1-3/4" by 2-5/8".

The 1-inch wide dark brown leather belt measures 47" long with holes at the 35" thru 45" positions. So the belt can be worn at the waist or at the hips. Additional holes can be punched where ever you need them. Let me know if you want me to punch them for you. The belt weighs about 14 ounces in total.

The belt buckle is hallmarked with a single W. I am unfamiliar with that hallmark. And it tests positive as coin silver (.900/90%) or sterling silver (.925/92.5%). Excellent condition!

This fabulous vintage Native American handcrafted silver concho belt was obtained from friends of my family who own a well-respected Native American & Western Art auction house in New Mexico. They estimate that the belt is from the 1960's.
