Vintage 1960's Navajo Turquoise Coral Silver Bolo

Large Vintage Native American Silver bolo with genuine turquoise, coral and applied silver work. Main piece measures 2-1/2" by 1-7/8". This bolo has a "Bennett Pat Pend C-31" slide, indicating that the bolo was made between 1957-67. From a private collection. Item# 9119

Vintage Native American ~ Navajo ~ sterling silver bolo, with a large dark emerald green turquoise stone. The turquoise is accented with a piece of branch coral and typical Navajo applied silver work: leaves, raindrop beads, twisted silver rope and so forth. The bolo measures 2-1/2" by 1-7/8". The heavy silver bolo tips measure 2-1/2" long. Hallmarked PC (etched).

Excellent vintage condition and patina. As is the case more often that not with the earlier Native American jewelry, the bolo is not marked for silver content nor maker. However, it tests positive as coin silver (.900/90%) or sterling silver (.925/92.5%).

The bolo slide on the backs on Native American bolos can aid in determining the age of a vintage bolo. Bolos were not made much before the 1930's. During that time, the backs of bolos were made with coin silver wires, not sterling. 1941 was the year sterling came into play. Bolos marked with a "Bennett Pat Pend C31" slide were made between 1957 until some time in 1967. Slides marked with a "Bennett Pat Pend" slide were made from 1967 - 1983. Sometime in 1983 saw the elimination of the stamped Bennett slide.

This bolo has a "Bennett Pat Pend C-31" slide, indicating that the bolo was made between 1957- 1967. From a private collection that we recently acquired from the family estate of the original owner. The original owner collected these items while traveling through Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado between the 1960's to the 1980's.
