I purchased this ring along with other jewelry directly from Deanna Olson, owner of Silver Sun, a longtime member of IACA, at the 2009 spring wholesale market. Since 1985, Silver Sun has been providing authentic, handmade Native American jewelry to the public by wholesaling to fine shops and galleries, museums, and Indian stores across the globe.
About Bisbee Turquoise: This brilliant deep blue turquoise is one of the most expensive and rare. Bisbee has a reputation as a hard, finely webbed, strikingly brilliant blue stone of high quality. Bisbee is one of the more famous and one of the oldest known American mines. The mine has been officially closed since the 1960's. In 2004, the mine's owner no longer allowed anyone near the old mine and buried the turquoise pit under 100 feet of dirt.
About Ruth Ann Begay: Ruth Ann Begay learned how to silversmith by watching her mother and her sister. Ruth began silversmithing professionally after high school. She taught herself how to finish silver jewelry. She is one of Silver Sun's best in-house silversmiths. Ruth says that when she signs her name to a piece, it is important that the quality of her work be something that she can be proud of.
