This incredibly detailed "Olla Maiden" ring is a wonderful example of traditional Zuni carved stone-to-stone inlay jewelry, created by well-known Zuni artist, Madeline Beyuka. Madeline has been creating mosiac inlay style jewelry since the 1950's. Madeline was married at one time to the late Zuni silversmith, Eddie A. Beyuka, and did the lapidary work for him. After their divorce, she continued on her own and did the silver work and lapidary work herself. Her favorite designs are this olla maiden and the eagle dancer.
The maiden is in the traditional formal wear for Zuni women. She wears a black manta, blouse, sash, apron, moccasins and a necklace with a colorful pottery on her head. The maiden measures 2-1/4" long and 1-1/8" wide. The ring weighs 14.8 grams and is a size 9.
