This incredibly detailed "Olla Maiden" pin/pendant combination is a wonderful example of traditional Zuni stone-to-stone inlay jewelry, created by well-known Zuni artist, Madeline Beyuka.
We have three pins available, one with maiden's shirt inlaid with a pale pink shell, one inlaid with Abalone shell and the other inlaid with Gold Lip MOP. The rest of the stones and shells used are turquoise, coral, jet and white MOP. See photos and make your selection of color during checkout.
The pin-pendant combination measures 2-1/4" long and 1" wide. It weighs 12 grams and has Madeline's hallmark (MB).
Madeline has been creating mosiac inlay style jewelry since the 1950's. Madeline was married at one time to the late Zuni silversmith, Eddie A. Beyuka, and did the lapidary work for him. After their divorce, she continued on her own and did the silver work and lapidary work herself. Her favorite designs are this olla maiden and the eagle dancer. The maiden is in the traditional formal wear for Zuni women. She wears a black manta, blouse, sash, apron, moccasins and a necklace. There's a colorful pottery piece on her head.
