Dead Pawn Navajo * Roanhorse * Turquoise Silver Concho Belt

Navajo Dead Pawn sterling silver turquoise cluster concho belt, hallmarked ROANHORSE. 10 handmade silver conchos including the buckle attached to a 1" wide leather belt. From Gallup, New Mexico pawn shop. Item# 2542

$ 850.00     SOLD     Back

This Navajo Dead Pawn sterling silver & turquoise concho belt was recently obtained from a great little pawn shop in Gallup, New Mexico. All the jewelry from this pawn shop was pawned by Native Americans living in the local area. Gallup is the "pawn capital" of the Southwest, close to the Navajo and Zuni reservations.

This concho belt has 10 hand made, silver turquoise cluster conchos made from sterling silver and set with genuine turquoise stones - 14 stones on each concho. The bright blue stones look like Sleeping Beauty turquoise. The oval conchos measure about 2" by 1-5/8", are made from sterling silver, are affixed to the leather belt with copper slides and can be adjusted as needed.

The 1" wide black leather belt looks relatively new and has a total length of 44" end-to-end. There are holes punched at the 33", 35" & 36" position. But I can punch additional holes for you as needed. The exact age of this concho belt is unknown. Excellent condition.

The buckle is hallmarked ROANHORSE and Sterling. According to Barton's hallmarks reference book, that hallmark belongs to Navajos Henry and Louise Roanhorse from the Gallup, New Mexico region. They began using that hallmark in 1978.
