Lee & Mary Weebothie Zuni Inlay Sunface Silver Nugget Ring sz10

Collector's quality Turquoise inlay silver nugget ring, created by Zuni masters, Lee & Mary Weebothie. Sides of ring inlaid as well. Small sunface in corner. Size 10. Item#3155

$ 350.00     Available: 1     Back

Here's a classic Zuni ring to add to your collection. The ring was created by Zuni masters, Lee & Mary Weebothie. Lee & Mary Weebothie have been called one of the best husband-wife teams in the history of Zuni jewelry.

The front and side of the ring are inlaid with  Sleeping Beauty turquoise with rounded edges. There is a small sunface inlaid with turquoise, coral, Mother of Pearl and jet in the corner of the face of the ring. The inlay is surrounded with applied free-from silver nuggets on the front and sides as well too.

The face of the ring measures 7/8 inch tall narrowing down to a 1/8" band at the back. Weighs 17 grams. Brand new and in perfect condition. Hallmarked Lee & Mary. Size 10.

Lee and Mary Weebothie are master Zuni silversmiths and inlay artists from the Zuni Pueblo. They have been making jewelry since the 1940’s and they sold their jewelry to famous traders like C.G. Wallace, Joe Tanner and others.

Lee was born in 1929 and Mary in 1933. They have been making jewelry for over 60 years. When they worked together, Lee did most of the silver work while Mary was the stone cutter, which she learned to do from Lee’s mother, Lula. Mary is known for her master stone cutting skills which are very unusual because of the rounded edges on the stones. Lee is known for his unusual applied silver nugget work. They have won numerous awards over the years.

Examples of their work can be found in the Kennedy Museum of Art "Art of the Zuni" collection and      you can see them at the museum's website here - http://www.ohiou.edu/museum/zuni/l_m_weebothee.html
