Here is a fantastic, one of a kind Native American Inlay 10K Gold Fill Sterling Silver Concho Storyteller belt. The belt has nine fabulous raised inlay bird scenes on round shimmering Mother of Pearl conchos, set on sterling silver backs surrounded with fancy 10K gold fill settings. This belt may have been a collaboration between a Navajo silver/goldsmith and a Zuni lapidarist. The conchos display typical Navajo design elements of leaves, beads and peyote flowers. And the inlaid scenes are typical of Zuni inlay work. Unfortunately the piece is not signed.
This belt was recently obtained from a private estate collection of authentic old southwestern Native American jewelry that we recently acquired. We purchased the collection from the estate of a couple who had traveled extensively through the southwest from the 1960's to the mid 1980's, buying Indian jewelry directly from the artists.
The conchos measure about 2-1/2" by 2", the butterflies measure about 7/8" by 2". The belt measures about 40" long, end to end. The belt can be adjusted to a shorter length as needed.
The belt is unmarked as is often the case for Native American jewelry from this time period, but it tests positive as 10K Gold on the front and coin silver (.900/90%) or sterling silver (.925/92.5%) on the back.
Excellent condition! Don't miss out on this beautiful belt that will dress up any outfit! circa 1970's.
